Rhonda and Allen
Who we are as a family:
We met in Southern California after moving from Kentucky (Allen) and Oklahoma (Rhonda). We were friends for 8 years and dated for 4 years and finally married in 2009. We love spending time together talking, joking, reading, watching movies, playing with our son and taking walks. We always wanted children, but infertility led us down a path of difficult and expensive treatments followed by disappointments – until we finally had our son. After losing a second son, we exhausted our options for pregnancy. It has been very rewarding raising our son, and we are ready to expand our family through adoption.
I (Rhonda) enjoy making things (out of fabric, wood, tiles, beads, clay), baking, and recently I discovered the joy of gardening. I grew up with two siblings who contributed positively to my sense of who I am. I worked previously in administrative positions, clinical research and most recently as a youth program developer. Since our son was born, I’ve been able to stay home which allows me the privilege of participating in his daily development and achievements. Our daytime adventures include: walking the dog, playing at the park, kindermusik classes, play dates with friends, swimming, riding bikes, kids’ classes at church, read aloud story times, and anything that promises learning and fun!
I (Allen) enjoy learning and teaching. I serve as a dean at a small Christian liberal arts university where I also teach classes in theology and history. In my personal time, I enjoy taking our son to arcades, amusement parks, museums, parks and the zoo. My wife and I love spending time together talking, going for walks and watching movies. Despite a busy work life, I make sure I spend time with my family. My wife and son are the light of my life.
Our son, Steele, was born in Minnesota and thinks summer is the best season. He is decisive, laughs easily, asks lots of great questions and enjoys being outside. He attentively listens to stories about anything and loves to learn new things.
Our views on openness in adoption:
We know that a child’s story begins before birth, so an adopted child in our family will have their own unique story. We want to nurture an ongoing connection with his/her birth family. We are open to face-to-face visits, texts, phone calls and sharing pictures. If possible, we would love to meet before the child’s birth and get to know you and your family. We respect your wishes for contact and will work with you to create a positive experience for the child.
