To potential expectant parents who are considering adoption:
Thank you for considering all your options as you prepare to bring a child into this world. Your child is a gift from God.
Gavin joined our family as an infant through adoption. We have enjoyed the journey of being new parents. Gavin is funny, kind, energetic, and full of life. We couldn’t imagine life without him.
We want you to know that we are caring, committed, and sincere. We are caring towards our family and our friends. We are committed to our faith in Jesus Christ, who died so that we all might live eternally. We are sincere in our interactions with others. We hope to impart this on Gavin and our future child(ren).
Our desire is to give a child a home, love and support, and an opportunity to pursue their dreams.
Who we are as a family:
We are parents of one child hoping to grow our family through adoption. As a family we value an open, loving, and structured environment. God is at the center of our marriage and our family.
Gavin is our three-year-old son with Asian heritage. We work as accountants for the government and live in the South Metro. Our family enjoys the following leisure activities: attending the fair, swimming, fishing, trips to the zoo, trips to the park, watching movies, vacationing, working on house projects, having fires and roasting marshmallows, gardening, going for walks, playing games, going to the Orchard, going to Pizza Ranch, and spending time with family.
Andrew enjoys practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling with Gavin, video games, and learning about aviation. Katie enjoys watching Hallmark, watching movies with Gavin, exercising, and reading. Gavin enjoys running around outside, going places, watching Blippi, and story time.
Each year we spend one week at a resort in Akeley and one week at a resort near Grand Rapids. At the resort in Akeley we spend time with Andrew’s family, fishing, swimming, eating together, and watching movies. At the resort near Grand Rapids we spend time with Katie’s extended family on her dad’s side. Activities include fishing, swimming, eating together, and playing games. We look forward to both vacations every year.
Our views on openness in adoption:
As we began the adoption process we didn’t know what to think of an open adoption. It sounded scary to us. After meeting Gavin’s birth mother and adopting Gavin we feel extremely blessed to be part of an open adoption. Currently we exchange emails with Gavin’s birth mother. Our hope is as Gavin grows the openness of his adoption will grow as well.
We feel an open adoption is a wonderful thing that provides healing for the birth parent(s), adoptive parents, and child. We also believe an open adoption will greatly benefit the child and their journey to adulthood.
We understand an open adoption will look differently for every family. We are willing to meet the birth parent(s) when they are ready and keep in communication via email, text, or phone. We are willing to be at the hospital before and after delivery if that is what the birth parent(s) would like. We look forward to collaborating with the birth parent(s) on the form and frequency of communications and visits. We would like the birth parent(s) to be comfortable in the open adoption and are willing to move at their pace. We feel birth parent(s) are important and should be apart of the child’s life.
