To potential expectant parents who are considering adoption:
We know our family is not complete yet and can’t wait for the Lord to bless us with adopting another child. When infertility closed the doors biologically, we prayed about adoption because we desired to have children. We were blessed when William joined our family through adoption in 2012. It has been such a joy having a child in our family and we can’t wait to share our love with another child. William can’t wait to have a sibling to share life with. He loves cousins and friends but is praying with us that our family will grow soon.
Our home is filled with God’s love and joy. We have seen our son’s confidence in knowing his birth mom loved him so much by placing him with a forever family. We know your child will grow feeling secure with the love that you have shown by choosing adoption. We are open to discussing the relationship you would be comfortable having with us, so the child knows they were loved from the start.
Thank you for letting us share a little of our story. We have been praying for our future birthparent and the journey they are on. We admire your strength and love as you consider making an adoption plan. We hope to meet you soon and learn about you.
Shawn and Krista
Who we are as a family:
We met in college and were married in 2000. We were both going to the U of M Duluth for Business and we met at a campus ministry. We knew that God had marriage for us and married within a year! We had a desire to have children but have struggled with infertility. We started our adoption journey because we felt this was how God was going to expand our family. In 2012, we were blessed with our son, William. We were thankful to expand our family through adoption. He has brought so much joy and fun to our family. We are waiting expectantly for God to expand our family through another adoption.
Krista enjoys being a stay-at-home mom . She also does consignment sales and volunteers at Bibles for Missions, Loaves and Fishes, and Just Between Friends. She likes to bake, read, and go for walks. Her favorite thing to do is read books to William. She also has a heart for serving others in the community and at our church. Shawn works in healthcare finance and serves on the finance team at our church. He enjoys to ski, hang out with family up north, play board games, and swim. His favorite thing to do is listen to William’s adventures and search for creatures with him.
Our son William is a very smart, busy, friendly and happy boy. He enjoys playing outside with friends and family. He loves to ask questions and learn about animals. His favorite things are reading books, building Lego’s, and searching for creatures. It has been fun to watch him learn and explore his faith through learning Bible stories and memorizing Scripture.
On a weekend you will find us exploring parks, riding bikes, reading books, baking cookies, and ending the day watching a family movie or playing a board game. Sundays are church days where we worship at our local church and are involved in adult and children’s ministries. In summer we like to visit our family cabin where we visit with cousins/grandparents, swim in the lake, and play outside. We also enjoy going to fairs, camping, and taking a vacation together.
Our views on openness in adoption:
We desire an open adoption. We see openness as beneficial to the child and both families. William’s birth mother has chosen not to have openness at this time, but we are open and hoping in the future this will change.
We believe openness would create a deeper family connection, by allowing the child to know their personal story from you. However, we know that every adoption is unique and personal. We are open to discussing what your are comfortable with regarding openness which may include, texts, emails, phone calls, visits, pictures, and sharing life events with your child.
