To potential expectant parents who are considering adoption:
Dear expectant parent,
We can’t know how difficult it is to make an adoption plan for your child. What we do know is that you undoubtedly want the best for them. We can’t promise to be perfect, but we can promise that with God’s help we will do everything possible to be the best parents we can be for them.
We want to be a family where love, grace, and joy are palpable. We want to raise children who are confident in who they were made to be. We want our child to know that they are loved by us and by God, no matter what happens or what they do. There is always a second chance, and an opportunity to come to us with their struggles. We want to be a family that welcomes people, and cares for the needs of others together. We hope to be parents who are worthy of being admired, and can be a guide to our children in how to live a beautiful life.
Love,
Nick & Hannah
Who we are as a family:
We’re in our thirties, and have been married for six years. We live in Saint Paul in a little house with our dog, Fitzgerald. Nick grew up in the northwest suburban area of the Twin Cities with his mom and step-dad, and spent weekends with his dad in the southern suburbs. Hannah grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, with her parents, three younger siblings, pets, and a huge extended family. Hannah went to the University of Northwestern – St. Paul to study Education, and has lived in Minnesota ever since. Nick went to the University of St. Thomas to study Public Health. Hannah is now a high school social studies teacher at Maple Grove Senior High, and Nick works as an Implementation Manager at a health tech start-up company that helps to make health benefits more accessible & easier to understand for members.
We love to travel, and have had the opportunity to do that quite a bit in the last few years. Nick has turned Hannah into a Wolves and Lynx fan, so now we love to watch them together. We also really enjoy getting out to a state park or two with Fitz when the weather is nice, to soak in some peace and quiet in nature. We love to eat, sing, swim, and cook/bake. Enjoying food together is an important thing to us. Whether that’s going out for a burger, or baking a quiche, good food is a daily necessity. We try to find ways to make life special, but also enjoy the simple things.
Our views on openness in adoption:
With openness in adoption, we think about the opportunity to provide a stronger foundation for our child. We understand how important it is for them to know who they are and where they come from. Not just who they are in the present, but the whole story. We want them to cherish the family that we will make together, and also the family that they were born into. We are excited about the opportunity to bring our families together to support and love our child. We know that these connections can ebb and flow, and that we may not always have the same ideas or wishes, but we are committed to providing our child with the opportunity to be connected to their whole family.
